Use multi-word verbs containing a verb, particle, and preposition.

আমাদের মধ্যে অনেকেই BCS, Varsity Admission, Job Exam অথবা দৈনন্দিন Spoken English-এ Phrasal Verbs নিয়ে কনফিউশনে পড়ি। আজকের লেসনে আমরা শিখবো Phrasal-Prepositional Verbs—যা দেখতে বড় হলেও ব্যবহার করা খুবই সহজ!
১. Phrasal-Prepositional Verb কী?#
সাধারণত, যখন একটি Verb-এর সাথে একটি Adverbial Particle এবং একটি Preposition যুক্ত হয়ে একটি সম্পূর্ণ নতুন অর্থ প্রকাশ করে, তখন তাকে Phrasal-Prepositional Verb বা Three-word verb বলা হয়।
এর বেসিক স্ট্রাকচার:#
Verb + Adverb (Particle) + Preposition + Object
উদাহরণ:
- Look (Verb) + forward (Adverb) + to (Preposition) = Look forward to (অধীর আগ্রহে অপেক্ষা করা)
২. গোল্ডেন রুল (Golden Rule to Remember)#
- ১.Always Inseparable: এই ভার্বগুলোকে আলাদা বা split করা যায় না। অবজেক্ট সবসময় পুরো ফ্রেজের শেষে বসবে।
- ✔ I can't put up with his behavior.
- ✘ I can't put his behavior up with. (ভুল!)
- ২.Always Transitive: এদের পরে অবশ্যই একটি Direct Object (Noun / Pronoun / Gerund) থাকবে।
৩. মোস্ট ইম্পরট্যান্ট Phrasal-Prepositional Verbs (Bangla Meaning সহ)#

| Put up with | সহ্য করা (Tolerate) | She cannot put up with such rude behavior. |
| Run out of | শেষ হয়ে যাওয়া / ফুরিয়ে যাওয়া | We have run out of cooking oil / gas. |
| Cut down on | কোনো কিছুর ব্যবহার কমানো | You must cut down on sugar for better health. |
| Get rid of | মুক্তি পাওয়া / ঝেড়ে ফেলা | It is time to get rid of these old clothes. |
| Come up with | কোনো আইডিয়া বা সমাধান বের করা | The team came up with a brilliant business plan. |
| Look down upon | কাউকে ছোট চোখে দেখা বা অবজ্ঞা করা | Never look down upon the poor. |
| Get along with | কারো সাথে ভালো সম্পর্ক থাকা | Do you get along with your colleagues? |
| Catch up with | সমকক্ষ হওয়া / তাল মিলিয়ে চলা | Walk faster, or you won't catch up with them. |
| Do away with | বিলুপ্ত করা / বাদ দেওয়া | The government decided to do away with outdated laws. |
৪. এক্সাম টিপস (Exam Pitfalls & Pro-Tips)#
⚠️ 'Look forward to' ট্র্যাপ:#
আমরা সচরাচর জানি to এর পর Verb-এর Base form (V1) বসে। কিন্তু Phrasal-Prepositional Verbs-এর শেষে থাকা to আসলে একটি Preposition, Infinitive marker নয়! তাই এর পর Noun অথবা Gerund (Verb + ing) বসাতে হয়।
- ✔ I look forward to hearing from you soon. (Correct)
- ✘ I look forward to hear from you soon. (Incorrect)
একই নিয়ম প্রযোজ্য: accustomed to, with a view to, look forward to ইত্যাদি ক্ষেত্রে।
