Connectors of Purpose

আজকের লেসনে আমরা শিখবো Connectors of Purpose। ইংরেজি গ্রামারে কোনো কাজ করার পেছনের উদ্দেশ্য (purpose) বা লক্ষ্য প্রকাশ করতে এই connectors-গুলো ব্যবহার করা হয়। HSC, SSC, Admission test এবং BCS পরীক্ষার জন্য এই নিয়মগুলো খুবই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।

১. So that / In order that (যেন / যাতে)#

যেকোনো কাজ কী উদ্দেশ্যে করা হচ্ছে তা বোঝাতে ক্লজের মাঝে so that বা in order that বসে।

• Structure:
• Present Tense: Clause (Present) + so that/in order that + Subject + can/may + Verb (Base form)
• Past Tense: Clause (Past) + so that/in order that + Subject + could/might + Verb (Base form)

• Examples:
• He works hard so that he can succeed in life. (সে কঠোর পরিশ্রম করে যাতে সে জীবনে সফল হতে পারে।)
• The student studied attentively in order that she could get GPA-5 in HSC. (ছাত্রীটি মনোযোগ দিয়ে পড়েছিল যেন সে এইচএসসিতে জিপিএ-৫ পেতে পারে।)

২. In order to / To / So as to (উদ্দেশ্যে / করার জন্য)#

উদ্দেশ্য প্রকাশের জন্য যখন আমরা ইনফিনিটিভ (to + verb) ব্যবহার করি, তখন to, in order to বা so as to বসে।

• Structure: Main Clause + in order to / so as to / to + Verb (Base form)

• Examples:
• She went to Dhaka in order to attend the interview. (ইন্টারভিউ দেওয়ার উদ্দেশ্যে সে ঢাকা গিয়েছিল।)
• He exercises daily so as to keep fit. (ফিট থাকার জন্য সে প্রতিদিন ব্যায়াম করে।)

৩. With a view to / For the purpose of (উদ্দেশ্যে)#

এই ফ্রেজগুলোও উদ্দেশ্য বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়, তবে মনে রাখতে হবে এর পর সবসময় Verb + ing হবে।

• Structure: Main Clause + with a view to / for the purpose of + Verb-ing

• Examples:
• Rahim went to the library with a view to reading books. (বই পড়ার উদ্দেশ্যে রহিম লাইব্রেরিতে গিয়েছিল।)
• He saved money with a view to buying a new laptop. (নতুন ল্যাপটপ কেনার উদ্দেশ্যে সে টাকা জমিয়েছিল।)

৪. Lest (পাছে কিছু ঘটে এই ভয়ে / যাতে এমন না হয়)#

কোনো নেগেটিভ পরিণতি এড়ানোর উদ্দেশ্যে যখন কিছু করা হয়, তখন lest বসে।

• Structure: Main Clause + lest + Subject + should / might + Verb (Base form) (নোট: Lest নিজেই একটি negative শব্দ, তাই এর পরের অংশে কখনও `not` বসবে না।)

• Examples:
• Walk fast lest you should miss the train. (দ্রুত হাঁটো পাছে তুমি ট্রেন মিস করে ফেল।)
• Read attentively lest you should fail in the exam. (মনোযোগ দিয়ে পড় যাতে পরীক্ষায় ফেল না কর।)

Common Mistakes (সাধারণ কিছু ভুল):#

❌ ভুল: He went to the market with a view to buy a phone. ✔️ সঠিক: He went to the market with a view to buying a phone. (with a view to এর পর verb+ing হবে)

❌ ভুল: Run fast lest you might not miss the bus. ✔️ সঠিক: Run fast lest you should miss the bus. (lest এর পর not বসে না)
