Prepositions of Place

Prepositions of Place মূলত কোনো ব্যক্তি, বস্তু বা প্রাণীর অবস্থান (location বা position) বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়। সহজ কথায়, কোনো কিছু 'কোথায় আছে'—এই প্রশ্নের উত্তর দিতেই Prepositions of Place ব্যবহার করা হয়।

চলেন দৈনন্দিন জীবনের উদাহরণের মাধ্যমে সহজে এগুলো শিখে নেওয়া যাক:

১. In, On, At-এর সহজ নিয়ম#

A. 'In' (ভেতরে বা বড় কোনো এলাকা বোঝাতে)#

যখন কোনো কিছু কোনো চারদেয়াল, বাউন্ডারি বা বড় কোনো জায়গার ভেতরে থাকে:

• বড় শহর/দেশ: I live in Dhaka. / She is in Bangladesh.
• বদ্ধ জায়গা/রুম: Rahim is in the room. / Keep the pen in the bag.
• যানবাহন (যেখানে হেঁটে চলাফেরা করা যায় না, যেমন- কার/ট্যাক্সি): I am in a car / in a CNG.

B. 'On' (কোনো কিছুর পৃষ্ঠ বা তলের ওপর স্পর্শ করে থাকা)#

যখন কোনো কিছু কোনো সমতল সারফেসে লেগে থাকে:

• টেবিল/ফ্লোর/দেয়াল: The book is on the table. / The clock is on the wall.
• রাস্তা/তলা: My office is on Mirpur Road. / We live on the 3rd floor.
• গণপরিবহন (যেখানে হেঁটে ওঠানামা করা যায়): I am on the bus. / He is on the train.

C. 'At' (নির্দিষ্ট পয়েন্ট বা সুনির্দিষ্ট স্থান)#

সুনির্দিষ্ট কোনো ঠিকানা, মিলনস্থল বা স্পষ্ট লোকেশন বোঝাতে:

• নির্দিষ্ট পয়েন্ট: Meet me at the bus stop. / Wait for me at the gate.
• নির্দিষ্ট ঠিকানা: He lives at 12, Dhanmondi Road.
• পরিচিত প্রতিষ্ঠান/জায়গা: I am at university. / Father is at home.

২. অন্যান্য প্রয়োজনীয় Prepositions of Place#

A. Under vs. Below (নিচে)#

• Under: সরাসরি নিচে এবং কোনো কিছু দিয়ে ঢাকা/ঘেরা থাকলে।
• Example: The cat is sleeping under the bed. (বিড়ালটি খাটের নিচে)
• Below: কোনো নির্দিষ্ট লেভেল বা পরিমাপের নিচে (সরাসরি নিচে নাও হতে পারে)।
• Example: Please sign your name below the line.

B. Over vs. Above (উপরে)#

• Over: ঠিক মাথার ওপরে বা এক পাশ থেকে অন্য পাশে অতিক্রম করা বোঝাতে (স্পর্শ ছাড়া)।
• Example: A fan is spinning over my head. / The dog jumped over the fence.
• Above: কোনো নির্দিষ্ট লেভেলের ওপরে থাকা।
• Example: The plane is flying above the clouds.

C. Between vs. Among (মাঝে/মধ্যে)#

• Between: নির্দিষ্ট দুই ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর মাঝে।
• Example: Jamuna Future Park is between Kuril and Bashundhara.
• Among: দুইয়ের অধিক (অনেকের) মাঝে।
• Example: He distributed the sweets among all the students.

D. Beside / Next to (পাশে)#

• Example: Sit beside me. (আমার পাশে বসো)
• Example: The pharmacy is next to the hospital.

E. In front of vs. Behind (সামনে ও পেছনে)#

• Example: There is a rickshaw stand in front of the market.
• Example: The thief hid behind the door.

৩. বাংলাদেশি শিক্ষার্থীদের সাধারণ কিছু ভুল (Common Mistakes)#

❌ ভুল: I am in bus. ✔️ সঠিক: I am on the bus. (কারণ বাসে দাঁড়িয়ে বা হেঁটে চলাফেরা করা যায়)

❌ ভুল: He lives at Chittagong. ✔️ সঠিক: He lives in Chittagong. (বড় শহর বা জেলার আগে 'in' বসে)

❌ ভুল: Distribute the mangoes between all children. ✔️ সঠিক: Distribute the mangoes among all children. (অনেকের মাঝে বোঝাতে 'among' হয়)
