Each, Every, Either, and Neither

BCS, Varsity Admission, Bank Job কিংবা HSC exam—সব জায়গায় 'Each, Every, Either, Neither' নিয়ে প্রশ্ন থাকেই। অনেকেই Singular নাকি Plural Verb বসবে তা নিয়ে confuse হয়ে যান। চলুন সহজে Banglish-এ এর নিয়মগুলো শিখে নেওয়া যাক!
1. Each (প্রত্যেকটি / প্রত্যেকে)#
- ব্যবহার: দুই বা ততোধিক ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর ক্ষেত্রে আলাদা আলাদাভাবে (individually) বোঝাতে 'Each' ব্যবহার করা হয়।
- Rules:
Each + Singular Noun + Singular Verb- Example: Each student has a unique roll number. (have হবে না)
Each of the + Plural Noun + Singular Verb(Very Important for Admission/BCS!)- Example: Each of the boys is present today. (are হবে না)
2. Every (প্রত্যেক / সবাই)#
- ব্যবহার: অন্তত তিন বা ততোধিক ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুকে collectively (একটি দলের মতো) বোঝাতে 'Every' বসে। মনে রাখবেন, শুধু দুইজনের ক্ষেত্রে কখনোই 'Every' বসে না (সেখানে 'Each' বসে)।
- Rules:
Every + Singular Noun + Singular Verb- Example: Every citizen loves their country. (love হবে না)
- 'Every of' বলে ইংরেজিতে কোনো phrase নেই! Plural pronoun-এর আগে 'Every one of' বসাতে হয়।
- Example: Every one of the players was ready.
3. Either (যেকোনো একটি)#
- ব্যবহার: শুধুমাত্র দুটির মধ্যে যেকোনো একটি (one of the two) বোঝাতে 'Either' ব্যবহার করা হয়।
- Rules:
Either + Singular Noun + Singular Verb- Example: Either road leads to the market. (দুটো রোডের যেকোনো একটা দিয়ে গেলেই হবে)
Either of the + Plural Noun + Singular Verb- Example: Either of the two pens writes well.
4. Neither (দুটির কোনটিই নয়)#
- ব্যবহার: দুটির মধ্যে একটিও না (none of the two) বোঝাতে 'Neither' বসে। এটি নিজেই negative word, তাই এর সাথে 'not' বা 'never' বসানো যাবে না।
- Rules:
Neither + Singular Noun + Singular Verb- Example: Neither statement is true. (দুটো বক্তব্যের কোনোটিই সত্য নয়)
Neither of the + Plural Noun + Singular Verb- Example: Neither of the mobile phones was working.

- Common Mistake: Neither of the answers are correct. ❌
- Correct: Neither of the answers is correct. ✔️
মনে রাখবেন: Subject যতই plural দেখা যাক না কেন (e.g., 'answers', 'boys', 'pens'), Each/Either/Neither থাকার কারণে Verb সবসময় Singular (is/was/has/verb+s/es) হবে!
