Indefinite Pronouns

আজকের Grammar Lesson-এ আমরা শিখবো Indefinite Pronoun নিয়ে। আমাদের বাংলাদেশে বিভিন্ন Competitive Exams (যেমন: BCS, Bank Job, Varsity Admission) এবং Daily Spoken English-এ এই টপিক থেকে প্রায়ই ভুল হয়। চলুন খুব সহজ ভাষায় শিখে নেওয়া যাক!

১. Indefinite Pronoun কী?#

যে Pronoun নির্দিষ্ট কোনো ব্যক্তি, বস্তু বা স্থানকে (specific person, place, or thing) না বুঝিয়ে অনির্দিষ্ট কোনো কিছুকে নির্দেশ করে, তাকে Indefinite Pronoun বলা হয়।

যেমন:

• নির্দিষ্ট: Rahim is absent. (এখানে Rahim নির্দিষ্ট)
• অনির্দিষ্ট: Somebody is absent. (কেউ একজন অনুপস্থিত, কিন্তু কে তা নির্দিষ্ট না)

২. প্রধান প্রকারভেদ (Types based on Subject-Verb Agreement)#

Indefinite Pronoun-এর সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ নিয়ম হলো Verb-এর ব্যবহার (Singular নাকি Plural)।

ক. Always Singular (এদের পর Verb সবসময় Singular হয়):#

• -body যুক্ত: Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, Nobody
• -one যুক্ত: Everyone, Someone, Anyone, No one
• -thing যুক্ত: Everything, Something, Anything, Nothing
• অন্যান্য: Each, Either, Neither, One, Another, Much, Little

⚠️ Common Bangladeshi Mistake: আমরা অনেকেই মনে করি Everyone মানে "সবাই", তাই Verb plural হবে। কিন্তু নিয়ম অনুযায়ী Verb Singular হবে! - ❌ Incorrect: Everyone are present today. - ✔️ Correct: Everyone is present today. - ❌ Incorrect: Each of the students have done well. - ✔️ Correct: Each of the students has done well.

খ. Always Plural (এদের পর Verb সবসময় Plural হয়):#

• Both, Few, A few, Many, Several, Others

Examples: - Both are invited to the wedding. - Few people know the real truth. - Several questions were answered.

গ. Variable (Singular বা Plural উভয়ই হতে পারে):#

এদের সহজে মনে রাখার টেকনিক হলো SANAM:

• Some
• Any
• None
• All
• Most / More

নিয়ম: এদের পরে যদি Uncountable Noun থাকে, তবে Singular Verb হয়। আর যদি Plural Countable Noun থাকে, তবে Plural Verb হয়।

Examples: - All of the water is dirty. (Water = Uncountable, তাই Singular Verb) - All of the books are interesting. (Books = Plural Countable, তাই Plural Verb) - Some of the milk has gone bad. - Some of the boys have passed the test.

৩. Special Exam Tips (BCS ও Admission-এর জন্য):#

• 1.One-এর Possessive:

• যদি Subject হিসেবে One থাকে, তবে তার Possessive pronoun হিসেবে his/her না বসে one's বসবে।
• ❌ Incorrect: One should do his duty.
• ✔️ Correct: One should do one's duty.

• 2.Negative Context-এ Any vs. Some:

• Positive বাক্যে সাধারণত some বসে, আর Negative এবং Question-এ any বসে।
• ✔️ I have some money.
• ✔️ I don't have any money.

৪. Quick Practice:#

নিচের বাক্যগুলোর সঠিক উত্তর নিজে চেষ্টা করুন:

• 1.Neither of the brothers (is / are) guilty.
• 2.Everybody loves (his / their) country.
