Attributive and Predicative Adjectives

আজকের English Grammar লেসনে আমরা শিখব Adjective-এর দুটি সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ পজিশন বা ব্যবহার: Attributive Adjective এবং Predicative Adjective। BCS, Bank Exam, Admission Test কিংবা দৈনন্দিন Spoken English-এর জন্য এই কনসেপ্টটি খুবই দরকারী।

১. Attributive Adjective কী?#

যখন কোনো Adjective সরাসরি Noun-এর আগে বসে সেই Noun-কে modify বা বর্ণনা করে, তখন তাকে Attributive Adjective বলা হয়।

• Structure: [Adjective + Noun]

Examples:

• 1.He is a brilliant student. (এখানে 'brilliant' শব্দটি সরাসরি Noun 'student'-এর আগে বসেছে)
• 2.She bought an expensive saree. (এখানে 'expensive' বসেছে Noun 'saree'-র পূর্বে)
• 3.Dhaka is a crowded city.

২. Predicative Adjective কী?#

যখন কোনো Adjective সরাসরি Noun-এর পূর্বে না বসে, বাক্যের Predicate অংশে Linking Verb (be verb, seem, look, taste, feel ইত্যাদি)-এর পরে বসে Subject-কে বর্ণনা করে, তখন তাকে Predicative Adjective বলে।

• Structure: [Subject + Linking Verb + Adjective]

Examples:

• 1.The student is brilliant. (এখানে 'brilliant' শব্দটি Linking Verb 'is'-এর পরে বসে Subject 'student'-কে modify করছে)
• 2.The saree looks expensive.
• 3.The food tastes delicious.

৪. Important Rules & Exceptions (পরীক্ষার জন্য বিশেষ গুরুত্বপূর্ণ):#

• ১.কিছু Adjective সাধারণত শুধুমাত্র Predicative হিসেবেই ব্যবহৃত হয়:

• যেসকল Adjective সাধারণত 'a-' দিয়ে শুরু হয় (যেমন: afraid, asleep, alive, alone, ashamed, aware)।
• সঠিক: The baby is asleep.
• ভুল: He is an asleep baby. ❌ (এখানে বলতে হবে: 'a sleeping baby')

• ২.কিছু Adjective শুধুমাত্র Attributive হিসেবেই ব্যবহৃত হয়:

• যেমন: main, former, elder, inner, outer, total ইত্যাদি।
• সঠিক: This is the main reason.
• ভুল: The reason is main. ❌
