Common Preposition Errors (বাঙালিদের জন্য সাধারণ Preposition-এর ভুল ও সমাধান)
Correct frequent mistakes involving preposition choice and omission.
Preposition ব্যবহারের ক্ষেত্রে আমরা বাংলাদেশিরা প্রায়ই বাংলায় ভেবে ইংরেজিতে অনুবাদ (literal translation) করতে গিয়ে ভুল করে ফেলি। চলুন দেখে নিই সবচেয়ে কমন কিছু Preposition Errors এবং সেগুলোর সঠিক ব্যবহার:
১. Discuss / Describe-এর পর 'About' ব্যবহার করা#
- ❌ Incorrect: Let's discuss about the matter.
- ✔️ Correct: Let's discuss the matter.
নোট: 'Discuss' শব্দের ভেতরেই 'কোনো বিষয়ে আলোচনা করা' ভাবটি লুকানো থাকে, তাই এর পর আলাদা করে 'about' বসানোর প্রয়োজন নেই। একইভাবে 'Describe about the picture' না বলে 'Describe the picture' বলতে হবে।
২. Married-এর সাথে 'With' বনাম 'To'#
- ❌ Incorrect: Karim is married with a doctor.
- ✔️ Correct: Karim is married to a doctor.
নোট: আমরা বাংলায় বলি 'অমুকের সাথে বিয়ে হয়েছে', তাই স্বভাবতই 'with' বলতে ইচ্ছা করে। কিন্তু বৈবাহিক সম্পর্কের ক্ষেত্রে preposition হিসেবে সবসময় 'to' ব্যবহার করতে হয়।
৩. কোনো দক্ষতায় ভালো বোঝাতে 'Good in'#
- ❌ Incorrect: She is good in English / Mathematics.
- ✔️ Correct: She is good at English / Mathematics.
নোট: কোনো নির্দিষ্ট বিষয়, খেলাধুলা বা স্কিলে পারদর্শী বোঝাতে 'good at' বসে (দুর্বল হলে 'weak in' বা 'bad at' ব্যবহার করা যায়)।
৪. Listen-এর পর Preposition বাদ দেওয়া#
- ❌ Incorrect: Please listen me carefully.
- ✔️ Correct: Please listen to me carefully.
নোট: যখন 'Listen'-এর পর কোনো object (কাউকে বা কোনো কিছু শোনা) থাকে, তখন অবশ্যই 'to' যোগ করতে হবে (Listen to music, Listen to the teacher)।
৫. অভিনন্দন জানানোর ক্ষেত্রে 'Congratulate for'#
- ❌ Incorrect: I congratulate you for your success.
- ✔️ Correct: I congratulate you on your success.
নোট: কোনো উপলক্ষ বা অর্জনে কাউকে অভিনন্দন জানাতে preposition 'on' ব্যবহৃত হয়।
৬. কোনো স্থানে প্রবেশের ক্ষেত্রে 'Enter into'#
- ❌ Incorrect: The teacher entered into the classroom.
- ✔️ Correct: The teacher entered the classroom.
নোট: কোনো ফিজিক্যাল স্থান বা রুমে প্রবেশের ক্ষেত্রে 'enter'-এর সাথে 'into' বসে না। তবে কোনো চুক্তি বা ব্যবসায় প্রবেশ বোঝাতে 'enter into an agreement' বলা যায়।
৭. যানবাহনে ওঠার ক্ষেত্রে (In vs. On)#
- ❌ Incorrect: I am in the bus / train.
- ✔️ Correct: I am on the bus / on the train / on a plane.
নোট: যে যানবাহনে ভেতরে হেঁটে চলাচল করা যায় বা বড় যানবাহন (Bus, Train, Plane, Boat), সেগুলোর ক্ষেত্রে 'on' বসে। আর যেখানে বসে থাকতে হয় (Car, Taxi, Auto-rickshaw), সেগুলোর ক্ষেত্রে 'in' বসে (e.g., I am in a CNG / car).
