Use adjectives to describe, classify, and specify nouns and pronouns.
Hello learners! আজকে আমরা English Grammar-এর খুব গুরুত্বপূর্ণ একটা topic নিয়ে কথা বলব—Adjective (বিশেষণ)।
Adjective কী?#
সহজ কথায়, যে word কোনো Noun বা Pronoun-এর দোষ, গুণ, অবস্থা, সংখ্যা বা পরিমাণ প্রকাশ করে, তাকে Adjective বলে। Adjective মূলত Noun/Pronoun সম্পর্কে extra information দেয়।
Example:
- Shakib is a talented cricketer. (এখানে 'talented' শব্দটি Shakib-এর গুণ প্রকাশ করছে।)
- Dhaka is a busy city. ('busy' শব্দটি ঢাকার অবস্থা বোঝাচ্ছে।)
- I have two pens. ('two' দিয়ে সংখ্যা বোঝাচ্ছে।)
Types of Adjectives (Adjective-এর প্রকারভেদ)#
ব্যবহারের ওপর ভিত্তি করে Adjectives প্রধানত কয়েক ভাগে বিভক্ত:
- 1.Adjective of Quality (গুণ/দোষ/অবস্থা):
Noun কেমন (How)? তা বোঝায়।
- Examples: good, bad, beautiful, honest, poor, rich.
- Sentence: He is an honest man.
- 2.Adjective of Quantity (পরিমাণ):
Noun-এর পরিমাণ (How much?) বোঝায়। এগুলো সাধারণত Uncountable Noun-এর সাথে বসে।
- Examples: some, much, little, all, enough.
- Sentence: Give me some water.
- 3.Adjective of Number (সংখ্যা বা ক্রম):
Noun কতগুলো (How many?) বা কোন ক্রমে আছে তা বোঝায়।
- Examples: one, two, first, second, many, few.
- Sentence: She got the first prize in HSC.
- 4.Demonstrative Adjective (নির্দিষ্ট করে নির্দেশ করা):
Noun-কে নির্দিষ্ট করে point out করতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
- Examples: this, that, these, those.
- Sentence: This book is very helpful for BCS preparation.
- 5.Possessive Adjective (মালিকানা বোঝাতে):
Noun কার অধিকার বা মালিকানায় আছে তা বোঝায়।
- Examples: my, your, his, her, our, their.
- Sentence: This is my classroom.
Position of Adjectives (বাক্যে Adjective কোথায় বসে?)#
Adjective প্রধানত দুটি জায়গায় বসে:
- 1.Attributive Use (Noun-এর ঠিক আগে):
- She bought a red sari.
- 2.Predicative Use (Linking Verb যেমন: be, seem, look, feel ইত্যাদির পরে):
- The food tastes delicious.
- He looks tired.
