Prepositions of Instrument and Means

আজকের লেসনে আমরা শিখবো Prepositions of Instrument and Means। কোনো কাজ কী দিয়ে বা কীসের মাধ্যমে করা হচ্ছে, তা বোঝাতে এই preposition-গুলো ব্যবহার করা হয়। Bangladeshi learners-দের মধ্যে প্রায়ই 'by' এবং 'with'-এর ব্যবহারে ভুল হতে দেখা যায়।

১. 'With' এর ব্যবহার (Instruments, Tools & Body Parts)#

সাধারণত কোনো হাত দিয়ে ধরা যায় এমন বস্তু, অস্ত্র, যন্ত্রপাতি (Tool/Instrument) বা শরীরের অঙ্গ দিয়ে কোনো কাজ করলে with বসে।

• Structure: Subject + Verb + Object + with + a/an/the + Tool/Instrument
• Examples:
• He cut the mango with a knife. (সে ছুরি দিয়ে আম কাটল - এখানে knife একটি instrument)
• She wrote the note with a blue pen. (by a pen হবে না, with a pen হবে)
• The boy hit the ball with a stick. (লাঠি দিয়ে মারল)
• He pointed at me with his finger. (শরীরের অঙ্গ)

২. 'By' এর ব্যবহার (Means of Transport, Method & Process)#

কোনো কাজ করার মাধ্যম, পদ্ধতি (Method/Medium) অথবা যাতায়াতের মাধ্যম (Means of Transport) বোঝাতে by ব্যবহৃত হয়। মনে রাখবেন, এর পর সাধারণত কোনো article (a/an/the) বসে না।

• Means of Transport (যানবাহন):
• I go to office by bus. (আমি বাসে করে অফিসে যাই)
• They went to Sylhet by train / by air.
• Method of Communication & Payment (পদ্ধতি/মাধ্যম):
• You can pay by card / by bKash / by cheque. (নগদ টাকা বা Cash হলে কিন্তু `in cash` হয়)
• Contact me by phone / by email.
• Effort or Action (প্রক্রিয়া/কাজের মাধ্যমে):
• You can achieve success by working hard.

৩. গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ব্যতিক্রম: By vs In / On (যানবাহনের ক্ষেত্রে)#

আমরা যখন কোনো নির্দিষ্ট যানবাহনের পূর্বে article (a/the) বা possessive pronoun (my/his) ব্যবহার করি, তখন by বসে না:

• In: ছোট গাড়ি যেখানে দাঁড়ানো বা হাঁটা যায় না (Car, Taxi, CNG, Boat)
• He arrived in a car. (He arrived by a car - ভুল)
• I went there in a CNG.
• On: বড় যানবাহন যেখানে হাঁটাচলা করা যায় বা দুই চাকার বাহন (Bus, Train, Plane, Bike, Rickshaw)
• We were on the bus.
• He came on his bike / on a rickshaw.

৪. 'Via' এর ব্যবহার (Through / পথ বা মধ্যস্থতাকারী হিসেবে)#

কোনো স্থান বা ব্যক্তির মধ্য দিয়ে কোনো কাজ সম্পন্ন হলে via ব্যবহৃত হয়।

• Examples:
• We flew to London via Dubai. (দুবাই হয়ে)
• I sent the document via WhatsApp.

Common Mistakes (সাধারণ কিছু ভুল):#

❌ Incorrect: I killed the mosquito by a bat. ✔️ Correct: I killed the mosquito with a bat. (Bat একটি tool)

❌ Incorrect: I go to university with bus. ✔️ Correct: I go to university by bus.

❌ Incorrect: Pay me by cash. ✔️ Correct: Pay me in cash.
