Use of "It's time" and "It's high time"#
বিভিন্ন Competitive Exam (যেমন: HSC, University Admission, BCS, Bank Job)-এ এই টপিক থেকে প্রায়ই প্রশ্ন আসে। চলুন সহজ ভাষায় নিয়মগুলো জেনে নেই।
১. অর্থ ও পার্থক্য:#
- It is time: কোনো কাজ করার উপযুক্ত সময় হয়েছে (Right time to do something)।
- It is high time: কোনো কাজ করার উপযুক্ত সময় ইতোমধ্যে পার হয়ে যাচ্ছে, তাই আর এক মুহূর্তও দেরি না করে এখনই কাজটা শুরু করা উচিত (Urgent/Overdue time)।
২. গুরুত্বপূর্ণ Structures (গঠন):#
Rule 1: Subject থাকলে (সবচেয়ে বেশি পরীক্ষায় আসে)#
It is time / It is high time + Subject + Past Indefinite (V2) + Extension
মনে রাখবেন: বাক্যটির অর্থ Present বা Future নির্দেশ করলেও Subject-এর পরের verb-টি সবসময় Past Form (V2) হবে (Subjunctive mood-এর কারণে)।
- Examples:
- Incorrect: It is high time we change our bad habits.
- Correct: It is high time we changed our bad habits. (আমাদের খারাপ অভ্যাস পরিবর্তনের মোক্ষম সময় এখনই)
- Correct: It's time they returned home.
- Correct: It is high time government took effective steps against corruption.
Rule 2: Subject না থাকলে (Infinitive ব্যবহার)#
যদি বাক্যে কোনো নির্দিষ্ট Subject না থাকে, তবে to + Base form (V1) বসে।
It is time / It is high time + to + V1 + Extension
- Examples:
- It is time to study hard.
- It is high time to leave the place.
Rule 3: 'For + Object' থাকলে#
It is time + for + Object + to + V1 + Extension
- Examples:
- It is time for us to start the journey.
- It is time for them to realize their mistakes.
৩. Admission & Job Exam Tips (Shortcut Hacks):#
- 1.বাক্যে "It is time / It is high time"-এর ঠিক পরেই যদি কোনো Subject (I, we, you, he, she, they, noun) দেখতে পান, তবে অপশন থেকে চোখ বন্ধ করে Verb-এর Past Form (V2) সিলেক্ট করবেন।
- 2.যদি কোনো Subject না থাকে, তবে অপশন থেকে to + V1 বেছে নিবেন।
৪. Quick Practice (নিজেকে যাচাই করুন):#
- 1.It is high time we _______ (leave) the hotel.
👉 Answer: left (যেহেতু Subject 'we' আছে, তাই V2 হবে)
- 2.It is time _______ (act) sensibly.
👉 Answer: to act (যেহেতু সরাসরি কোনো Subject নেই)
- 3.It is high time you _______ (stop) smoking.
👉 Answer: stopped
