Reported Speech: Commands and Requests (Imperative Sentences)
Report commands and requests with infinitive constructions.
আজকের লেসনে আমরা শিখবো কীভাবে Direct Speech-এর Commands (আদেশ) এবং Requests (অনুরোধ)—অর্থাৎ Imperative Sentences-কে Indirect Speech বা Reported Speech-এ রূপান্তর করতে হয়।
১. মূল নিয়মগুলো (Basic Rules):#
- ১.Reporting Verb পরিবর্তন:
- Command/Order (আদেশ) বোঝালে:
said toপরিবর্তিত হয়েordered,commanded, বাtoldবসে। - Request (অনুরোধ) বোঝালে:
said toপরিবর্তিত হয়েrequested,asked, বাbeggedবসে। - Advice (উপদেশ) বোঝালে:
said toপরিবর্তিত হয়েadvisedবসে।
- ২.Inverted Comma (‘...’) তোলার নিয়ম:
- কমা এবং কোটেশন মার্ক তুলে দিয়ে
to + verb-এর base form(Infinitive) বসাতে হয়। - যদি বাক্যটি Negative (না-বোধক) হয় (যেমন: Don't do this), তবে
not to + verbবসে।
- ৩.Please/Kindly বাদ দেওয়া:
- Direct speech-এ
PleaseবাKindlyথাকলে Indirect করার সময় তা বাদ যায়, কারণ Reporting Verb হিসেবে আগেইrequestedব্যবহার করা হয়েছে।
- ৪.Pronoun ও অন্যান্য শব্দের পরিবর্তন:
- Person পরিবর্তন আগের সাধারণ Narration-এর মতোই হয় (First person Subject অনুযায়ী, Second person Object অনুযায়ী)।
২. Commands (আদেশ) এর উদাহরণ:#
- Direct: The teacher said to the students, "Sit down."
- Indirect: The teacher ordered the students to sit down.
- Direct: The officer said to the soldier, "Fire!"
- Indirect: The officer commanded the soldier to fire.
- Negative Command:
- Direct: Father said to me, "Don't waste your time."
- Indirect: Father advised me not to waste my time. (অথবা `forbade` ব্যবহার করতে পারেন: Father forbade me to waste my time. তবে forbade-এর পর আর 'not' বসে না।)
৩. Requests (অনুরোধ) এর উদাহরণ:#
- Direct: Rony said to me, "Please lend me your pen."
- Indirect: Rony requested me to lend him my pen.
- Direct: She said to her brother, "Kindly close the door."
- Indirect: She requested her brother to close the door.
- Negative Request:
- Direct: The patient said to the visitor, "Please don't make noise."
- Indirect: The patient requested the visitor not to make noise.
৪. Modal Auxiliaries দিয়ে শুরু হওয়া Request:#
মাঝে মাঝে অনুরোধগুলো "Would you...", "Could you..." দিয়ে শুরু হয়। এগুলো প্রশ্নবোধক দেখালেও আসলে Request।
- Direct: He said to me, "Could you open the window, please?"
- Indirect: He requested me to open the window. (এখানে 'could' বা 'please' আর বসবে না)
