Inversion in Conditionals
Inversion in Conditionals
Use formal conditional inversions such as Had I known.
Inversion in Conditionals (কন্ডিশনাল সেন্টেন্সে ইনভার্শন)#
সাধারণত আমরা Conditional Sentences-এ If ব্যবহার করি। কিন্তু formal English, competitive exams (যেমন BCS, Varsity Admission, Bank Job, IELTS)-এ প্রায়ই `If` তুলে দিয়ে বাক্য শুরু করা হয়। এই নিয়মটিকেই বলে Inversion in Conditionals।
সহজ কথায়: `If` বাদ যাবে এবং Auxiliary Verb (Should / Were / Had) Subject-এর আগে বসবে।
১. First Conditional-এ Inversion (Should দিয়ে)#
First Conditional-এ মূলত সম্ভাবনা বা উপদেশ বোঝাতে Should দিয়ে Inversion করা হয়।
- Normal Structure: If + Subject + Verb (Present Form), Subject + will/can + Verb...
- Inversion Structure: Should + Subject + Base Form of Verb (V1), Subject + will/can + Verb...
Note: Subject যদি
he/she/itহয়, তবুও Verb-এর সাথেs/esযুক্ত হবে না, সবসময় Base Verb বসবে।
- Example:
- Normal: If you need any help, please call me.
- Inversion: *Should you need* any help, please call me.
- Normal: If he comes tomorrow, we will discuss it.
- Inversion: *Should he come* tomorrow, we will discuss it. (Not: Should he comes)
২. Second Conditional-এ Inversion (Were দিয়ে)#
Second Conditional (কাল্পনিক বা অসম্ভব বর্তমান পরিস্থিতি)-এ Were ব্যবহার করে Inversion করা হয়।
ক. যদি মূল বাক্যে 'Were' থাকে:#
- Normal Structure: If + Subject + were + ...
- Inversion Structure: Were + Subject + ...
- Example:
- Normal: If I were a bird, I would fly in the sky.
- Inversion: *Were I a bird*, I would fly in the sky.
খ. যদি বাক্যে অন্য Action Verb থাকে (Were না থাকে):#
- Inversion Structure: Were + Subject + to + Base Verb (Infinitive)
- Example:
- Normal: If they asked me to do it, I would refuse.
- Inversion: *Were they to ask* me to do it, I would refuse.
৩. Third Conditional-এ Inversion (Had দিয়ে)#
Third Conditional (অতীতের কোনো আফসোস বা শর্ত যা আর পূরণ হওয়া সম্ভব না)-এ Had দিয়ে Inversion করা হয়। এটি সবচেয়ে বেশি পরীক্ষায় আসে!
- Normal Structure: If + Subject + had + V3, Subject + would/could/might have + V3
- Inversion Structure: Had + Subject + V3, Subject + would/could/might have + V3
- Example:
- Normal: If I had studied harder, I would have passed the exam.
- Inversion: *Had I studied* harder, I would have passed the exam.
- Normal: If we had known the schedule, we would have attended the seminar.
- Inversion: *Had we known* the schedule, we would have attended the seminar.
৪. Negative Inversion-এর ক্ষেত্রে সতর্কতা ⚠️#
Negative সেন্টেন্সে Inversion করার সময় কখনোই Hadn't / Weren't / Shouldn't সাবজেক্টের আগে একসঙ্গে বসাবেন না। Not সবসময় সাবজেক্টের পরে বসবে।
- ❌ Incorrect: Hadn't you told me, I would have made a mistake.
- ✔️ Correct: *Had you not told* me, I would have made a mistake.
- ✔️ Correct: *Were he not* so busy, he would join us.
