Conditional Sentences

আজকে আমরা English Grammar-এর একটি অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ টপিক শিখব—Conditional Sentences। SSC, HSC, Admission Test কিংবা Job Exam—সব জায়গাতেই এখান থেকে প্রশ্ন আসে।

Conditional Sentence মানে হলো এমন বাক্য যেখানে কোনো 'শর্ত' থাকে। এর প্রধানত দুটি অংশ থাকে:

• 1.If-clause (শর্ত/Condition)
• 2.Main clause (ফলাফল/Result)

Conditional Sentences মূলত চার প্রকারের হয়:

• 1.Zero Conditional (চিরন্তন সত্য বা বৈজ্ঞানিক সত্য):

যেসব কথা সবসময় সত্য বা বৈজ্ঞানিক নিয়ম, সেগুলোর ক্ষেত্রে Zero Conditional ব্যবহৃত হয়।

• Structure: If + Present Simple, Present Simple
• Example: If you heat water to 100°C, it boils. (পানি ১০০ ডিগ্রিতে গরম করলে তা ফোটে।)
• Example: If it rains, the grass gets wet.

• 2.First Conditional (ভবিষ্যতের সম্ভাব্য শর্ত):

বর্তমানে কোনো কাজ করলে ভবিষ্যতে তার ফলাফল পাওয়ার বাস্তব সম্ভাবনা থাকলে এটি বসে।

• Structure: If + Present Simple, Subject + will/can/may + V1 (Base form)
• Example: If you study hard, you will pass the exam. (যদি তুমি ভালো করে পড়ো, তুমি পাস করবে।)
• Example: If he comes, I will go.

• 3.Second Conditional (বর্তমান বা ভবিষ্যতের কাল্পনিক/অবাস্তব শর্ত):

বর্তমান বা ভবিষ্যতের এমন কোনো বিষয় যা অবাস্তব বা হওয়ার সম্ভাবনা খুবই কম (Hypothetical situations)।

• Structure: If + Past Simple, Subject + would/could/might + V1
• Note: 'be' verb থাকলে সব subject-এর সাথেই 'were' বসে (যেমন: If I were a bird...)।
• Example: If I had enough money, I would buy a car. (যদি আমার যথেষ্ট টাকা থাকত, আমি একটি গাড়ি কিনতাম।)
• Example: If I were you, I would not do this. (আমি যদি তোমার জায়গায় হতাম, আমি এটা করতাম না।)

• 4.Third Conditional (অতীতের অপূর্ণ শর্ত / আক্ষেপ):

অতীতের এমন কোনো কাজ যা আর পরিবর্তন করা সম্ভব নয় (Regret বা আক্ষেপ বোঝাতে)।

• Structure: If + Past Perfect (had + V3), Subject + would have/could have/might have + V3
• Example: If you had called me, I would have helped you. (তুমি যদি আমাকে ডাকতে, আমি তোমাকে সাহায্য করতাম। কিন্তু তুমি ডাকোওনি, আমি সাহায্যও করিনি।)
• Example: If they had played well, they would have won the match.

Quick Exam Tip (Completing Sentences এর জন্য):

• If + Present = Future Simple (will + V1)
• If + Past = would + V1
• If + Past Perfect (had + V3) = would have + V3
