Passive Voice with Modals

সহজ ভাষায় Passive Voice with Modals:

Modal Verbs (যেমন: can, could, may, might, must, shall, should, will, would, ought to ইত্যাদি) দিয়ে বাক্য গঠন আমরা প্রতিদিনের ইংরেজিতে প্রচুর ব্যবহার করি। স্পোকেন ইংলিশ কিংবা বিভিন্ন প্রতিযোগিতামূলক পরীক্ষায় (যেমন: HSC, BCS, Admission Test) Modals-এর প্যাসিভ ভয়েস খুব গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।

চলুন একদম সহজভাবে নিয়ম ও উদাহরণ দেখে নিই:

• ১.সাধারণ নিয়ম (Simple Modals):

Active Voice-এ যদি Modal verb থাকে, তাহলে Passive করার সময় Modal-এর পরে একটি 'be' বসাতে হয় এবং মূল verb-এর Past Participle (V3) ফর্ম হয়।

Active Structure: Subject + Modal + V1 (Base form) + Object

Passive Structure: Object-টি Subject + Modal + be + V3 + (by + Subject-এর Object form)

উদাহরণ: • Active: You can solve this problem. Passive: This problem can be solved by you. (বাংলা অর্থ: সমস্যাটি তোমার দ্বারা সমাধান করা যেতে পারে।)

• Active: We must follow the traffic rules. Passive: The traffic rules must be followed by us. (বাংলা অর্থ: ট্রাফিক নিয়মাবলি আমাদের অবশ্যই মানতে হবে।)

• Active: You should help the poor. Passive: The poor should be helped by you. (বাংলা অর্থ: গরিবদের সাহায্য করা উচিত।)

• ২.'Have to / Has to / Going to' যুক্ত বাক্যের Passive:

এগুলো semi-modals হিসেবে কাজ করে। এ ক্ষেত্রেও নিয়ম একই: be + V3 হবে।

• Active: She has to write an email. Passive: An email has to be written by her.

• Active: The government is going to build a bridge. Passive: A bridge is going to be built by the government.

• ৩.Modal Perfect (Modal + have + V3):

অতীতের কোনো সম্ভাব্য বা উচিত ছিল এমন কাজের ক্ষেত্রে 'Modal + have + V3' ব্যবহৃত হয়। Passive করার সময় এদের মাঝে 'been' যুক্ত করতে হয়।

Active Structure: Subject + Modal + have + V3 + Object

Passive Structure: Object + Modal + have been + V3 + by + Subject

উদাহরণ: • Active: You should have completed the assignment. Passive: The assignment should have been completed by you. (বাংলা অর্থ: অ্যাসাইনমেন্টটি তোমার দ্বারা শেষ করা উচিত ছিল।)

• Active: He might have lost the keys. Passive: The keys might have been lost by him.

• ৪.Negative & Interrogative Sentences:

Negative (না-বোধক): • Active: You cannot cheat anyone. Passive: Anyone cannot be cheated by you. / No one can be cheated by you.

Interrogative (প্রশ্নবোধক): • Active: Can you drive a car? Passive: Can a car be driven by you?

Self-Practice (নিজে চেষ্টা করুন):

• ১.Active: We ought to respect our parents.

-> Passive: Our parents ought to be respected by us.

• ২.Active: You must submit the report today.

-> Passive: The report must be submitted today.

• ৩.Active: They could have won the match.

-> Passive: The match could have been won by them.

মনে রাখার শর্টকাট: • Modal + V1 থাকলে Passive-এ হবে -> Modal + be + V3 • Modal + have + V3 থাকলে Passive-এ হবে -> Modal + have been + V3
