আমরা সাধারণত Conditional Sentence বলতেই "If" খুঁজি (e.g., If you come, I will go)। কিন্তু অ্যাডভান্সড ইংরেজি বা বিভিন্ন প্রতিযোগিতামূলক পরীক্ষায় (যেমন- DU IBA, BCS, Bank Job) 'If' ছাড়াও কন্ডিশনাল বাক্য তৈরি করা হয়। এগুলোকে বলা হয় Inverted Conditionals এবং Implied Conditionals।

১. Inverted Conditionals (ইনভার্টেড কন্ডিশনালস)#

Inversion মানে হলো 'If' তুলে দিয়ে বাক্যের শুরুতে Auxiliary Verb (সাহায্যকারী verb) নিয়ে আসা। নিয়মগুলো দেখে নেওয়া যাক:

ক) First Conditional-এ Inversion (Should দিয়ে):#

First conditional-এ সম্ভাবনা প্রকাশ করতে 'If'-এর বদলে Should দিয়ে শুরু করা যায়।

• Normal: If you need any assistance, please call me.
• Inverted: Should you need any assistance, please call me.

মনে রাখবেন: এখানে 'Should' থাকা সত্ত্বেও অর্থ "উচিত" নয়, বরং "যদি প্রয়োজন হয়" বোঝায়।

খ) Second Conditional-এ Inversion (Were দিয়ে):#

Second conditional-এ অবাস্তব বা কাল্পনিক পরিস্থিতিতে 'If' বাদ দিয়ে Were সামনে আনা হয়।

• Be-verb থাকলে:
• Normal: If I were a king, I would help the poor.
• Inverted: Were I a king, I would help the poor.
• Action verb থাকলে (Were + Subject + to + V1):
• Normal: If he knew the password, he would tell us.
• Inverted: Were he to know the password, he would tell us.

গ) Third Conditional-এ Inversion (Had দিয়ে - Most Common!):#

Third conditional-এ 'If' তুলে দিয়ে বাক্যটি সরাসরি Had দিয়ে শুরু করতে হয়।

• Normal: If I had seen the accident, I would have informed the police.
• Inverted: Had I seen the accident, I would have informed the police.
• Negative Inversion:
• Normal: If they had not warned us, we would have been in danger.
• Inverted: Had they not warned us, we would have been in danger. (Hadn't they নয়, formal writing-এ 'not' Subject-এর পরে বসে)

২. Implied Conditionals (উহ্য বা অন্তর্নিহিত কন্ডিশনালস)#

কিছু বাক্যে সরাসরি 'If' বা 'Condition' থাকে না, কিন্তু বাক্যের অর্থ বা Phrase দেখে বুঝতে হয় যে এটি মূলত একটি কন্ডিশনাল বাক্য।

ক) But for / Without (যদি না... হতো):#

এগুলোর পর Noun বা Noun Phrase বসে এবং এরা মূলত Third Conditional-এর অর্থ প্রকাশ করে।

• Example: Without your advice, I would have failed. (Meaning: If you had not advised me, I would have failed.)
• Example: But for his timely help, the patient would have died. (Meaning: If he hadn't helped in time, the patient would have died.)

খ) Otherwise / Or else:#

আগের বাক্যের প্রভাব পরবর্তী ক্লজে কন্ডিশন হিসেবে কাজ করে।

• Example: I hurried; otherwise, I would have missed the train. (Meaning: If I had not hurried, I would have missed the train.)

গ) In case of / Provided that / As long as:#

• Provided that you study hard, you will pass the exam. (Only if you study hard)
• In case of emergency, ring the alarm bell. (If there is an emergency)

৩. Exam Hack: কমন ভুলগুলো কোথায় হয়?#

• 1.Inverted Had-এর সাথে Verb-এর রূপ:

• ❌ Had I saw him, I would have talked.
• ✔️ *Had I seen him, I would have talked.* (Had শুরুতে গেলেও এটি Past Participle / V3-ই নিবে)।

• 2.Result Clause মেলাতে ভুল করা:

• বাক্যটি যদি Had + Subject + V3 দিয়ে শুরু হয়, অপর অংশে বাধ্যতামূলকভাবে would/could/might + have + V3 বসবে।

৪. Practice Questions#

👉 Answer: (B) — কারণ অপর অংশে 'would have reached' আছে (3rd Conditional)। তাই শুরুতে Had + Subject + V3 বসবে।

👉 Answer: (C) — First conditional-এর ক্ষেত্রে Inversion করার জন্য 'Should' ব্যবহৃত হয়।
