English Grammar-এর অন্যতম গুরুত্বপূর্ণ এবং tricky একটি টপিক হলো Direct to Indirect Speech (Narration)। অনেক সময় tense ঠিক থাকলেও Pronoun বা Time/Place-এর পরিবর্তন ভুল হওয়ার কারণে পরীক্ষায় মার্কস কাটা যায়। চলো খুব সহজে Banglish স্টাইলে এই নিয়মগুলো শিখে নিই!
১. Pronoun Change করার সহজ নিয়ম (The SON Formula)#
Direct speech-এর Reported Speech (ইনভার্টেড কমার ভিতরের অংশ)-এ থাকা Pronoun কীভাবে পরিবর্তিত হবে, তা মনে রাখার সহজ টেকনিক হলো SON Formula:
- S (1st Person -> Subject): Reported speech-এ 1st Person (I, we, me, us, my, our) থাকলে তা Reporting Verb-এর Subject অনুযায়ী পরিবর্তিত হবে।
- Direct: Rahim said, "I am writing my assignment."
- Indirect: Rahim said that he was writing his assignment.
- O (2nd Person -> Object): Reported speech-এ 2nd Person (you, your) থাকলে তা Reporting Verb-এর Object অনুযায়ী পরিবর্তিত হবে।
- Direct: She said to me, "You can take your book."
- Indirect: She told me that I could take my book.
- N (3rd Person -> No Change): Reported speech-এ 3rd Person (he, she, it, they, him, her, them, names) থাকলে সেগুলোর কোনো পরিবর্তন হয় না।
- Direct: Tanvir said, "She is learning spoken English."
- Indirect: Tanvir said that she was learning spoken English.
২. Time and Place Expression Changes (নিকটবর্তী থেকে দূরবর্তী)#
Direct speech-এ সময় বা স্থান নির্দেশক শব্দগুলো বর্তমান বা নিকটবর্তী অবস্থা বোঝালে, Indirect speech-এ তা অতীত/দূরবর্তী প্রকাশ করে। নিচে একটি চার্ট দেওয়া হলো:

৩. Complete Real-life Examples#
Example 1:
- Direct: Karim said to me, "I will meet you here tomorrow."
- Indirect: Karim told me that he would meet me there the next day.
(Notice: I -> he, you -> me, here -> there, tomorrow -> the next day, will -> would)
Example 2:
- Direct: Mother said, "We bought these mangoes yesterday."
- Indirect: Mother said that they had bought those mangoes the previous day.
(Notice: We -> they, these -> those, yesterday -> the previous day)

Reporting Verb যদি Present Tense (যেমন: He says) অথবা Future Tense (যেমন: He will say) এ থাকে, তবে কিন্তু ভিতরে Tense বা Time expression পরিবর্তন হয় না, শুধুমাত্র Pronoun পরিবর্তন হবে!
- Direct: He says, "I am happy today."
- Indirect: He says that he is happy today.
