Compound Sentences (যৌগিক বাক্য)
Connect independent clauses using coordination.
আজকে আমরা শিখব English Grammar-এর খুব গুরুত্বপূর্ণ একটি টপিক—Compound Sentences। SSC, HSC কিংবা BCS/Job Exam-এর Transformation of Sentences-এ এটি প্রায়ই আসে।
১. Compound Sentence কী?#
সহজ ভাষায়, যখন দুটি বা তার বেশি Independent Clause (স্বাধীন বাক্যংশ, যা একা একাই পূর্ণ অর্থ প্রকাশ করতে পারে) কোনো Coordinating Conjunction দিয়ে যুক্ত হয়ে একটি বাক্য তৈরি করে, তাকে Compound Sentence বলে।
Structure: Independent Clause + Comma (,) + Coordinating Conjunction + Independent Clause
২. FANBOYS রুল (সবচেয়ে সহজ শর্টকাট)#
Compound Sentence মনে রাখার সবচেয়ে সহজ টেকনিক হলো FANBOYS:
- F = For (কারণ / because-এর মতো অর্থ দেয়)
- A = And (এবং / দুটি সমজাতীয় কথা জোড়া লাগাতে)
- N = Nor (ওটাও না / Negative অর্থে)
- B = But (কিন্তু / বৈপরীত্য বোঝাতে)
- O = Or (অথবা / বিকল্প বোঝাতে)
- Y = Yet (তবুও / but-এর মতো অপ্রত্যাশিত ফল বোঝাতে)
- S = So (তাই / ফলাফল বোঝাতে)
৩. উদাহরণের মাধ্যমে শিখি:#
- 1.And (এবং):
- Tanvir went to the market, and he bought some hilsha fish.
- (তানভীর বাজারে গেল এবং সে কিছু ইলিশ মাছ কিনল।)
- 2.But (কিন্তু):
- Rahim studied hard, but he failed the exam.
- (রহিম কঠোর পড়াশোনা করেছিল, কিন্তু সে পরীক্ষায় পাস করতে পারেনি।)
- 3.Or (অথবা):
- Work hard, or you will not succeed in life.
- (কঠোর পরিশ্রম করো, নয়তো তুমি জীবনে সফল হতে পারবে না।)
- 4.So (তাই):
- It was raining heavily, so we cancelled our cricket match.
- (প্রচণ্ড বৃষ্টি হচ্ছিল, তাই আমরা আমাদের ক্রিকেট ম্যাচ বাতিল করলাম।)
- 5.Yet (তবুও):
- The man is very rich, yet he is unhappy.
- (লোকটি খুব ধনী, তবুও সে অসুখী।)
৪. কিছু কমন ভুল (Common Mistakes):#
- Comma Splice: দুটি independent clause-কে শুধু কমা (,) দিয়ে যুক্ত করা যাবে না।
- ❌ Incorrect: Shakib played well, he could not win the match.
- ✔️ Correct: Shakib played well, but he could not win the match.
- Semicolon (;) এর ব্যবহার: Conjunction ছাড়াও শুধু সেমিকোলন (;) দিয়ে দুটি independent clause যুক্ত করে Compound Sentence বানানো যায়।
- যেমন: The exam was tough; everyone was nervous.
৫. Practice Task (নিজেকে যাচাই করুন):#
নিচের দুটি বাক্য জোড়া লাগিয়ে Compound Sentence তৈরি করুন:
- Sentence 1: You can drink tea.
- Sentence 2: You can drink coffee.
👉 Answer: You can drink tea, or you can drink coffee.
