Too...To and So...That

আজকের Lesson-এ আমরা শিখব English Grammar-এর খুবই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ দুটি structure: 'Too...to' এবং 'So...that'। SSC, HSC কিংবা Admission/Job Exam-এর Transformation of Sentences এবং Completing Sentences অংশে এই টপিক থেকে প্রশ্ন থাকেই।

১. 'Too...to' এর ব্যবহার (Simple Sentence)#

অর্থ: 'এতই বেশি যে... করা সম্ভব নয়'। মনে রাখবে, 'Too...to' মূলত একটি Negative অর্থ প্রকাশ করে, যদিও বাক্যে আলাদা করে 'not' থাকে না।

Structure: Subject + Verb + too + Adjective/Adverb + to + Verb-এর Base form (V1) + Ext.

যদি Subject বস্তুবাচক হয় বা ভিন্ন ব্যক্তি নির্দেশ করে: Subject + Verb + too + Adjective/Adverb + for + Personal Object (me/him/them) + to + V1

Examples:

• 1.He is too weak to walk. (সে এতই দুর্বল যে হাঁটতে পারে না।)
• 2.The load is too heavy for him to carry. (বোঝাটি তার জন্য বহন করার পক্ষে খুবই ভারী।)
• 3.The tea is too hot to drink. (চা এতই গরম যে পান করা যায় না।)

২. 'So...that' এর ব্যবহার (Complex Sentence)#

অর্থ: 'এতই... যে'। এটি দ্বারা কারণ ও ফলাফল প্রকাশ পায়।

Structure: Subject + Verb + so + Adjective/Adverb + that + Subject (1st Subject অনুযায়ী) + can/cannot/could/could not + V1 + Ext.

Golden Rule (Tense এর ব্যবহার):

• প্রথম অংশ Present Tense হলে that এর পরে cannot বসে।
• প্রথম অংশ Past Tense হলে that এর পরে could not বসে।

Examples:

• 1.He is so weak that he cannot walk. (সে এতই দুর্বল যে সে হাঁটতে পারে না।)
• 2.The man was so poor that he could not buy food. (লোকটি এতই গরিব ছিল যে সে খাবার কিনতে পারেনি।)

৩. Transformation: Simple ('Too...to') থেকে Complex ('So...that')#

Transform করার সহজ ৩টি ধাপ:

• 1.too এর জায়গায় so বসবে।
• 2.to এর জায়গায় that + Subject + can not / could not বসবে।
• 3.বাকি অংশ অপরিবর্তিত থাকবে।

Examples:

• Simple: The box is too heavy for me to lift.
• Complex: The box is so heavy that I cannot lift it.

• Simple: She was too late to catch the train.
• Complex: She was so late that she could not catch the train.

৪. Common Mistakes (সাবধানতা):#

• Mistake: He was so sick that he cannot attend the class. ❌
• Correct: He was so sick that he could not attend the class. ✔️ (যেহেতু 'was' Past Tense, তাই 'could not' হবে)

• Mistake: The water is too cold that we cannot drink it. ❌
• Correct: The water is so cold that we cannot drink it. ✔️ (Too এর সাথে to বসে, that বসে So এর সাথে)

Quick Practice:#

• 1.The problem is too difficult to solve. (Complex বানান)

Answer: The problem is so difficult that we/one cannot solve it.

• 2.He ran so slowly that he could not win the race. (Simple বানান)

Answer: He ran too slowly to win the race.
