Phrase কী?#

সহজ ভাষায়, Phrase হলো একদল শব্দ (group of words) যা একটি একক ইউনিট বা grammatical unit হিসেবে কাজ করে। তবে মনে রাখবেন:

• এতে কোনো নিজস্ব Subject এবং Finite Verb থাকে না।
• এটি একা একা কোনো সম্পূর্ণ অর্থ বা complete sentence তৈরি করতে পারে না।

Note: Clause-এ Subject এবং Verb থাকে, কিন্তু Phrase-এ তা থাকে না।

Types of Phrases (প্রধান প্রকারভেদ)#

১. Noun Phrase (NP)#

যে phrase একটি বাক্যে Noun-এর মতো কাজ করে (Subject, Object বা Complement হিসেবে)।

• Formula: Modifier/Article + Noun
• Example:
• A talented student of Dhaka University won the prize.
• I want to buy a brand new smartphone.

২. Prepositional Phrase#

যে phrase একটি Preposition দিয়ে শুরু হয় এবং সাধারণত Noun বা Pronoun (Object of Preposition) দিয়ে শেষ হয়।

• Example:
• The book is on the wooden table.
• We went to Cox's Bazar by bus.

৩. Adjective Phrase#

যে phrase কোনো Noun বা Pronoun-কে modify করে বা তার দোষ-গুণ-অবস্থা প্রকাশ করে।

• Example:
• The girl with long black hair is my cousin.
• This mobile is extremely expensive.

৪. Adverb Phrase#

যে phrase কোনো Verb, Adjective বা অন্য Adverb-কে modify করে (কীভাবে, কখন, কোথায় বা কেন প্রশ্নের উত্তর দেয়)।

• Example:
• He drives the car with great care (How?).
• We will reach Dhaka in the morning (When?).

৫. Verb Phrase#

মূল verb-এর সাথে এক বা একাধিক auxiliary/helping verb মিলে Verb Phrase গঠিত হয়।

• Example:
• The students are preparing for the BCS exam.
• It has been raining since morning.

৬. Infinitive Phrase#

To + Base form of verb এবং তার সাথে সম্পর্কিত modifiers/objects নিয়ে এটি গঠিত হয়।

• Example:
• He wants to learn spoken English.
• It is easy to criticize others.

৭. Participial Phrase#

Present Participle (verb+ing) বা Past Participle (verb-এর ৩য় রূপ) দিয়ে শুরু হয় এবং Adjective হিসেবে কাজ করে।

• Example:
• Walking on the road, I saw a accident.
• The phone made in Bangladesh is working well.
