Adjective Phrases (বিশেষণ পদগুচ্ছ)
Use adjectives with modifiers and complements.
Adjective Phrase কী?#
আমরা সবাই জানি Adjective কোনো Noun বা Pronoun-এর দোষ, গুণ, অবস্থা বা সংখ্যা প্রকাশ করে।
যখন একটি মাত্র শব্দের বদলে একগুচ্ছ শব্দ (group of words) মিলে বাক্যে ঠিক একটি Adjective-এর মতো কাজ করে (অর্থাৎ কোনো Noun বা Pronoun-কে বর্ণনা/modify করে), তখন তাকে Adjective Phrase বলা হয়।
সাধারণ Adjective বনাম Adjective Phrase#
- Single Adjective: He is a wealthy man. (এখানে ‘wealthy’ একটি একক শব্দ Adjective)
- Adjective Phrase: He is a man of great wealth. (এখানে ‘of great wealth’ তিনটি শব্দ মিলে ‘man’-কে describe করছে, তাই এটি Adjective Phrase)
Adjective Phrase-এর সাধারণ গঠন ও উদাহরণ#
১. Prepositional Phrase যখন Adjective হিসেবে কাজ করে#
অনেক সময় Preposition দিয়ে শুরু হওয়া phrase কোনো Noun-এর পাশে বসে তাকে modify করে।
- *The boy in the blue shirt is my cousin.* (নীল শার্ট পরা ছেলেটি আমার খালাতো ভাই। এখানে ‘in the blue shirt’ বর্ণনা করছে ‘The boy’-কে।)
- *The book on the table is mine.* (টেবিলের ওপরের বইটি আমার।)
২. Adjective + Modifiers/Complements#
একটি মূল Adjective-এর সাথে adverb বা অন্যান্য শব্দ যোগ হয়ে phrase তৈরি হতে পারে।
- *She is extremely good at mathematics.* (এখানে ‘extremely good at mathematics’ পুরো অংশটি ‘She’-কে বর্ণনা করছে।)
- *The weather is too cold to go outside.*
৩. Participle দিয়ে গঠিত Phrase#
- *The girl carrying a heavy bag looks tired.* (ভারী ব্যাগ বহনকারী মেয়েটিকে ক্লান্ত দেখাচ্ছে।)
চেনার সহজ কৌশল (Bangladeshi Learners-দের জন্য টিপস)#
- ১.Noun-কে প্রশ্ন করুন: Noun-টিকে 'Which one?' (কোনটি?) বা 'What kind of?' (কেমন?) দিয়ে প্রশ্ন করলে যে শব্দের দল উত্তর হিসেবে পাওয়া যায়, সেটাই Adjective Phrase।
- Which boy? -> The boy with a smile.
- ২.Position: Adjective সাধারণত Noun-এর আগে বসে (যেমন: a beautiful garden), কিন্তু Adjective Phrase প্রায়ই Noun-এর ঠিক পরে বসে (যেমন: *a garden full of red roses*)।
