Compound-Complex Sentences

আজকের ক্লাসে আমরা শিখব Compound-Complex Sentences। এটি মূলত Compound Sentence এবং Complex Sentence-এর একটি হাইব্রিড বা মিশ্র রূপ। BCS, IELTS, বা HSC/Admission টেস্টের writing-এ high score পেতে এই ধরনের বাক্যের ব্যবহার অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।

১. Compound-Complex Sentence কী?#

খুব সহজ কথায়:

• Compound Sentence মানে: অন্তত ২টি Independent Clause (স্বাধীন বাক্যংশ) যা FANBOYS (For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So) দিয়ে যুক্ত থাকে।
• Complex Sentence মানে: অন্তত ১টি Independent Clause + ১টি Dependent Clause (অধীন বাক্যংশ) যা Subordinating Conjunction (because, although, if, since, when ইত্যাদি) দিয়ে যুক্ত থাকে।

👉 Compound-Complex Sentence = At least TWO Independent Clauses + At least ONE Dependent Clause

অর্থাৎ, এই বাক্যে মোট তিনটি বা তার বেশি Clause থাকবে:

• ১.দুটি স্বাধীন বাক্য (যা একা একা অর্থ প্রকাশ করতে পারে)।
• ২.একটি নির্ভরশীল বাক্য (যা একা অর্থ প্রকাশ করতে পারে না)।

২. বেসিক স্ট্রাকচার (Basic Structure):#

[Independent Clause] + [Coordinating Conjunction] + [Independent Clause] + [Subordinating Conjunction + Dependent Clause] (নোট: Dependent Clause বাক্যের শুরু, মাঝখানে বা শেষে বসতে পারে।)

৩. উদাহরণের সাহায্যে Breakdown:#

Example 1:

"Though Rahim was sick, he went to office, and he completed the report on time."

ভেঙে বিশ্লেষণ করা যাক:

• Though Rahim was sick ➔ Dependent Clause (though থাকার কারণে এটি একা সম্পূর্ণ অর্থ দেয় না)।
• he went to office ➔ Independent Clause 1 (সম্পূর্ণ বাক্য)।
• and ➔ Coordinating Conjunction.
• he completed the report on time ➔ Independent Clause 2 (আরেকটি সম্পূর্ণ বাক্য)।

Example 2:

"Rina loves to read books, but she could not buy the novel because she forgot her wallet."

• Rina loves to read books ➔ Independent Clause 1
• , but ➔ Coordinating Conjunction
• she could not buy the novel ➔ Independent Clause 2
• because she forgot her wallet ➔ Dependent Clause

৪. চেনার সহজ উপায় (Pro Tips for Bangladeshi Students):#

• ১.Conjunction খুঁজুন: বাক্যে সাধারণত দুটি Conjunction থাকবে—একটি Coordinating (and, but, or, so ইত্যাদি) এবং অন্যটি Subordinating (because, since, although, when, if ইত্যাদি)।
• ২.Punctuation মনে রাখুন:

• যদি Dependent clause বাক্যের শুরুতে আসে, তাহলে সেটির পর একটি Comma (,) বসাতে হবে।
• দুটি Independent clause-কে জোড়া লাগানোর জন্য Coordinating conjunction-এর আগে একটি Comma (,) বসে।
