University Admission Grammar

ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় (DU), GST গুচ্ছ বা যেকোনো পাবলিক বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ভর্তি পরীক্ষায় Subject-Verb Agreement থেকে ১-২ নম্বর প্রায় নিশ্চিত আসে। নিচে মোস্ট ইম্পর্টেন্ট রুলসগুলো সহজ টেকনিকে ব্যাখ্যা করা হলো:

• ১.Prepositional Phrase ফাঁদ (Trap of Prepositional Phrases):

Preposition-এর পরের অংশ কখনো বাক্যের আসল Subject হয় না, ওটা Object of the Preposition। Verb সবসময় Preposition-এর আগের আসল Subject অনুযায়ী বসবে। • Example: The quality of these mangoes (is/are) good. → Correct: is (কারণ আসল Subject হলো 'The quality', 'mangoes' নয়)।

• ২.'Together with / As well as' রুল:

With, together with, along with, accompanied by, as well as, in addition to, including দিয়ে দুটি Noun/Pronoun যুক্ত থাকলে Verb সবসময় '১ম Subject' অনুযায়ী বসে। • Example: Rahim, as well as his friends, (has/have) done the work. → Correct: has ('Rahim' ৩য় পুরুষ একবচন অনুযায়ী)।

• ৩.'Either...or / Neither...nor / Not only...but also' রুল (Proximity Rule):

এই Correlative conjunctions গুলোর ক্ষেত্রে Verb সবসময় 'নিকটতম Subject' (বা ২য় Subject) অনুযায়ী পরিবর্তিত হয়। • Example: Neither the teacher nor the students (was/were) present. → Correct: were (Verb-এর সবচেয়ে কাছের Subject 'the students' Plural)।

• ৪.One of the + Plural Noun + Singular Verb:

বাক্যে 'One of the' থাকলে তার পরের Noun/Pronoun টি Plural হবে, কিন্তু Verb টি Singular হবে। • Example: One of the boys (is/are) absent today. → Correct: is *ব্যতিক্রম (Relative Pronoun থাকলে): He is one of the boys who (has/have) won the prize. → Correct: have (কারণ 'who' তার আগের Plural Noun 'boys'-কে নির্দেশ করছে)।

• ৫.Indefinite Pronouns:

Everyone, everybody, someone, somebody, nobody, no one, each, every, either, neither — এদের পরে Verb সবসময় Singular হয়। • Example: Each of the students (gets/get) a medal. → Correct: gets

• ৬.More than one vs More than two:

• More than one + Singular Noun + Singular Verb: More than one person was responsible. • More than two/three + Plural Noun + Plural Verb: More than two persons were responsible.

• ৭.দূরত্ব, সময় ও টাকার পরিমাণ (Unit Rule):

দূরত্ব (Distance), সময় (Time), টাকা (Money) বা পরিমাপ দেখতে Plural মনে হলেও এরা একটা নির্দিষ্ট একক বোঝালে Verb Singular হয়। • Example: Fifty miles (is/are) a long distance. → Correct: is

প্র্যাকটিস টিপ: অ্যাডমিশন টেস্টে প্রশ্ন সলভ করার সময় আগে বাক্যের আসল Subject খুঁজে বের করতে হবে, তারপর Verb নির্ধারণ করতে হবে।
