১. The Core Rule: Sentence Types (সঠিক বৈচিত্র্য আনা)#

Writing-এ কেবল simple sentence লিখলে চলবে না। আপনাকে Simple, Compound, Complex, এবং Compound-Complex বাক্যের ব্যালান্স দেখাতে হবে।

• Simple: The university introduced a new policy.
• Compound (FANBOYS দিয়ে যুক্ত): *The policy was controversial, but students eventually accepted it.*
• Complex (Subordinating Conjunction): Although the tuition fees increased, the administration provided higher scholarships.
• Compound-Complex: Although the lecture was dense, Rahim took thorough notes, and he later shared them with his study group.

২. Avoid Sentence Fragments & Run-On Sentences (মারাত্মক ভুল)#

Bengali speakers প্রায়ই মাতৃভাষার আদলে ভাবতে গিয়ে এই দুই ধরনের ভুল করে থাকেন:

ক. Sentence Fragment (অপূর্ণ বাক্য)#

• Incorrect: Because the professor canceled the morning class. (এটি dependent clause, পূর্ণ বাক্য নয়)
• Correct: *Because the professor canceled the morning class, students had extra time to prepare.*

খ. Run-on Sentence & Comma Splice#

দুটো independent clause শুধু comma দিয়ে জোড়া দেওয়া যাবে না।

• Incorrect: The experiment failed, the researchers repeated the procedure. (Comma Splice)
• Correct: *The experiment failed; therefore, the researchers repeated the procedure.*
• Or: *The experiment failed, so the researchers repeated the procedure.*

৩. Subject-Verb Agreement with Intervening Phrases#

Bangladeshi students প্রায়ই Subject-এর ঠিক পরের noun দেখে verb বসিয়ে দেন, যা TOEFL Reading ও Writing-এর একটি ক্লাসিক ট্র্যাপ।

• Structure: Subject + [prepositional phrase / modifier] + Verb
• Incorrect: *The list of newly admitted international students are published on the portal.*
• Correct: *The list [of newly admitted international students] is published on the portal.*

৪. Parallelism (প্যারালালিজম / সমান্তরাল কাঠামো)#

যখন series-এ একাধিক items বা verbs থাকবে, তাদের grammatical form একই হতে হবে।

• Incorrect: *The professor expects students to read critically, writing clearly, and to participate in discussions.*
• Correct: *The professor expects students to read critically, write clearly, and participate in discussions.*

Correlative Conjunctions:#

• Either... or, Neither... nor, Not only... but also
• Incorrect: The program not only requires dedication, but also to have patience.
• Correct: *The program requires not only dedication but also patience.*

৫. Dangling Modifiers (ড্যাংলার)#

Sentence-এর শুরুতে participle phrase থাকলে কমার পর সেই noun-ই বসবে যে কাজটি করছে।

• Incorrect: *Walking through the campus library, several historic manuscripts were noticed by Arif.* (Manuscripts হাঁটছিল না, আরিফ হাঁটছিল!)
• Correct: *Walking through the campus library, Arif noticed several historic manuscripts.*

৬. Advanced Sentence Variety: Inversion (High-Scoring Technique)#

Speaking বা Writing-এ negative adverbs দিয়ে শুরু করলে Inversion হয় (Verb subject-এর আগে আসে):

• Hardly / Rarely / Seldom / Not only
• Normal: Universities rarely offer full financial aid for professional degrees.
• Inverted (Sophisticated): *Rarely do universities offer full financial aid for professional degrees.*
