BCS, Bank, এবং অন্যান্য সরকারি Job Exam-এর English অংশে Subject-Verb Agreement থেকে নিশ্চিত ১-২ নম্বর থাকে। নিচে পরীক্ষায় বারবার আসা সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ Rule-গুলো সহজে ব্যাখ্যা করা হলো:
Rule 1: As well as / Along with / Together with / In addition to#
দুটি Subject যখন as well as, along with, together with, accompanied by, in addition to, including, with দ্বারা যুক্ত হয়, তখন Verb সর্বদা প্রথম Subject অনুযায়ী পরিবর্তিত হয়।
- Incorrect: The chairman, along with his members, are present.
- Correct: The chairman, along with his members, is present. (প্রথম Subject 'chairman' singular, তাই verb 'is')
- BCS Question: Mr. Rahim as well as his sons (to be) present yesterday. 👉 Answer: was (কারণ Mr. Rahim singular)।
Rule 2: Either...or / Neither...nor / Not only...but also#
এগুলো দিয়ে দুটি Subject যুক্ত হলে Verb সর্বদা নিকটবর্তী (২য় Subject) অনুযায়ী বসে।
- Structure: Either + Sub-1 + or + Sub-2 + Verb (Sub-2 অনুযায়ী)
- Example 1: Neither the teacher nor the students were (not was) in the class.
- Example 2: Either you or he is (not are) to blame.
Rule 3: One of + Plural Noun + Singular Verb#
'One of'-এর পর Noun/Pronoun সর্বদা Plural হয়, কিন্তু Verb সর্বদা Singular হয়।
- Formula: One of + Plural Noun + Singular Verb
- Example: One of my best friends is a doctor. (friends plural হলেও verb 'is')
- Exception (Relative Pronoun): কিন্তু বাক্যে যদি who / that / which থাকে, তবে তার আগের antecedent অনুযায়ী Plural Verb বসে।
- Example: He is one of the players who have performed well.
Rule 4: The number of vs A number of#
চাকরি পরীক্ষায় প্রায়ই পরীক্ষার্থীরা এই দুটি গুলিয়ে ফেলে:
- A number of + Plural Noun + Plural Verb
- Example: A number of students are absent today.
- The number of + Plural Noun + Singular Verb
- Example: The number of students in the class is increasing.
Quick Practice (BCS Pattern):#
- 1.Many a man (have/has) tried to complete the mission.
👉 Answer: has ('Many a' এর পর singular noun ও singular verb বসে)।
- 2.The committee (is/are) divided in their opinions.
👉 Answer: are (Noun of Multitude — মতপার্থক্য বোঝালে Collective Noun-এর পর Plural Verb হয়)।
