Grammar Lesson: Error Detection (ভুল নির্ণয় ও সংশোধন)#

Error Detection হলো বিভিন্ন প্রতিযোগিতামূলক পরীক্ষা (যেমন: BCS, Bank Job, DU/IBA Admission)-র একটি অত্যন্ত কমন এবং গুরুত্বপূর্ণ টপিক। অনেক সময় বাক্যটি পড়তে ঠিক মনে হলেও এর ভেতর সূক্ষ্ম ব্যাকরণগত ভুল থাকে। নিচে বাংলাদেশি শিক্ষার্থীদের সচরাচর হওয়া কিছু কমন ভুল এবং সেগুলোর নিয়ম আলোচনা করা হলো:

১. Subject-Verb Agreement Errors#

Rule 1: 'One of the' এর ব্যবহার

• Incorrect: One of my friend is coming.
• Correct: One of my friends is coming.
• ব্যাখ্যা: 'One of the' এর পর Noun/Pronoun সবসময় Plural হবে, কিন্তু Verb হবে Singular (কারণ মূল Subject হলো 'One')।

Rule 2: As well as, along with, together with

• Incorrect: The teacher along with his students were present.
• Correct: The teacher along with his students was present.
• ব্যাখ্যা: 'along with', 'as well as', 'accompanied by' দিয়ে দুটি Noun যুক্ত হলে Verb সবসময় প্রথম Subject অনুযায়ী বসে। এখানে মূল Subject 'The teacher' (Singular), তাই Verb হবে 'was' (not 'were')।

২. Redundancy Errors (অতিরিক্ত শব্দের ভুল ব্যবহার)#

আমরা বাংলায় বলার সময় অনেক সময় শব্দের দ্বৈত প্রয়োগ করি, যা ইংরেজিতে ভুল বা 'Redundancy'।

• Return back ❌ -> Return ✔️
• Incorrect: He will return back tomorrow.
• Correct: He will return tomorrow.
• Discuss about ❌ -> Discuss ✔️
• Incorrect: We discussed about the matter.
• Correct: We discussed the matter.
• Repeat again ❌ -> Repeat ✔️
• Incorrect: Please repeat it again.
• Correct: Please repeat it.

৩. Preposition জনিত Errors#

• Cope up with ❌ -> Cope with ✔️
• Incorrect: I cannot cope up with the pressure.
• Correct: I cannot cope with the pressure.
• টিপস: ইংরেজিতে 'cope with' মানে মানিয়ে নেওয়া, এর মাঝে 'up' বসে না।
• Comprise of ❌ -> Comprise ✔️ / Consist of ✔️
• Incorrect: The committee comprises of ten members.
• Correct: The committee comprises ten members. (অথবা: The committee consists of ten members).

৪. Conditional Sentences Errors#

• Incorrect: If I will go there, I will meet him.
• Correct: If I go there, I will meet him.
• ব্যাখ্যা: 'If' যুক্ত clause-এ সাধারণত 'will/shall' বসে না। First Conditional এর নিয়ম: If + Present Indefinite + Future Indefinite।

৫. Parallelism Errors (সমান্তরাল গঠনের নিয়ম)#

• Incorrect: Rahim likes swimming, reading, and to play cricket.
• Correct: Rahim likes swimming, reading, and playing cricket.
• ব্যাখ্যা: 'and' বা কমা দিয়ে যুক্ত উপাদানগুলোর grammatical form একই রকম হতে হবে (সবগুলো Gerund/V+ing)।

• Correction: 'were' হবে। কারণ 'neither... nor' থাকলে Verb বসে দ্বিতীয়/নিকটবর্তী Subject (his brothers - plural) অনুযায়ী।

• 2.Question: The scenery (A) / of Cox's Bazar (B) / are very (C) / charming (D).

• Answer: (C) are very
• Correction: 'is very' হবে। কারণ 'Scenery' একটি Uncountable Noun, যার Plural হয় না এবং Verb সবসময় Singular হয়।
