IELTS Grammar for Writing

IELTS Writing Task 1 এবং Task 2-এ ব্যান্ড স্কোর বৃদ্ধির জন্য অন্যতম গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ক্রাইটেরিয়া হলো Grammatical Range and Accuracy (GRA), যা আপনার মোট স্কোরের ২৫% বহন করে। অনেক বাংলাদেশি শিক্ষার্থী ফ্লুয়েন্টলি লিখতে পারলেও ছোটখাটো কিছু গ্রামাটিক্যাল ভুলের কারণে ব্যান্ড ৭ বা তার বেশি পেতে ব্যর্থ হন। নিচে এই সমস্যার সমাধানসহ গুরুত্বপূর্ণ নিয়মগুলো তুলে ধরা হলো:

১. Complex Sentence Structure (ব্যান্ড ৭+ পাওয়ার মূল চাবিকাঠি)#

এক্সামিনার কেবল Simple বা Compound Sentence দেখতে চান না, বরং বিভিন্ন ধরনের Complex Sentence দেখতে পছন্দ করেন।

• Subordinating Conjunctions ব্যবহার করুন:
• Although / Even though / While (বৈপরীত্য বোঝাতে):
• ভুল: Although online learning is convenient, but it lacks personal interaction.
• সঠিক: Although online learning is convenient, it lacks personal interaction. (মনে রাখবেন: 'Although' এর সাথে কখনো 'but' বসে না—এটি বাংলাদেশি শিক্ষার্থীদের একটি খুব সাধারণ ভুল!)
• Conditional Clauses (If / Unless):
• উদাহরণ: If governments invest in renewable energy, carbon emissions will decline significantly.

• Relative Clauses (Who, Which, That, Where):
• সাধারণ: Dhaka has a massive population. It faces severe traffic congestion.
• ব্যান্ড ৭+: Dhaka, which is one of the most densely populated cities, faces severe traffic congestion.

২. Common Grammatical Mistakes (বাংলাদেশি শিক্ষার্থীদের সাধারণ ভুল)#

ক. Run-on Sentences এবং Comma Splices#

দুইটি স্বাধীন বাক্যকে (Independent Clauses) শুধুমাত্র কমা দিয়ে জোড়া দেওয়া যাবে না।

• ভুল: Traffic congestion is increasing rapidly, it harms the national economy.
• সঠিক (Semicolon ব্যবহার করে): Traffic congestion is increasing rapidly; it harms the national economy.
• সঠিক (Conjunction দিয়ে): Traffic congestion is increasing rapidly, and it harms the national economy.
• সঠিক (Complex বানিয়ে): Traffic congestion is increasing rapidly, which severely harms the national economy.

খ. Subject-Verb Agreement এর সমস্যা#

• ভুল: One of the most effective solutions are creating more jobs.
• সঠিক: One of the most effective solutions is creating more jobs. ('One' হলো মূল সাবজেক্ট, তাই ভার্ব সিঙ্গুলার হবে)
• ভুল: The number of students are decreasing.
• সঠিক: The number of students is decreasing. ('The number of' থাকলে Verb Singular হয়, তবে 'A number of' থাকলে Verb Plural হয়)

গ. Overuse of Passive Voice বা ভুল ব্যবহার#

একাডেমিক লেখায় Passive Voice প্রয়োজনীয়, কিন্তু জোর করে অপ্রয়োজনীয় স্থানে এটি ব্যবহার করলে বাক্য অস্বাভাবিক শোনায়।

• ভুল: A decision should be made by governments to ban smoking.
• সঠিক: Governments should take decisive action to ban smoking.

৩. Hedging (একাডেমিক টোন বজায় রাখার টেকনিক)#

IELTS Writing Task 2-এ কখনো চরম সত্য বা পরম দাবি (Absolute statement) করবেন না। যেমন: 'Smoking definitely causes death' না বলে Modals বা Hedging Phrases ব্যবহার করুন।

• ব্যবহার্য শব্দ: tends to, appears to, could potentially, it is widely believed that...
• উদাহরণ: High taxation on junk food may encourage individuals to opt for healthier alternatives.
