Grammar for Writing

সহজে এবং নির্ভুলভাবে ইংরেজি লেখার জন্য কিছু core grammar rules জানা অত্যন্ত জরুরি। অনেক সময় আমরা কথা বলার সময় grammar হালকাভাবে নিলেও writing-এর ক্ষেত্রে accuracy বজায় রাখা আবশ্যক। নিচে প্রধান নিয়মগুলো আলোচনা করা হলো:

• ১.Subject-Verb Agreement (কর্তা ও ক্রিয়ার মিল):

• Rule: Subject singular হলে verb singular হবে, subject plural হলে verb plural হবে।
• Example: "The quality of these mangoes is good." (এখানে subject mangoes নয়, 'quality', তাই 'is' হয়েছে)।
• Common Mistake: "Every student have submitted their task." (ভুল) -> Correct: "Every student has submitted their task."

• ২.Avoid Run-on Sentences and Comma Splices:

• দুটি independent clause (সম্পূর্ণ বাক্য) শুধু comma দিয়ে জোড়া লাগানো যায় না। একে comma splice বলে।
• Incorrect: "I finished my assignment, I went to sleep."
• Correct options: 1. "I finished my assignment, and I went to sleep." (Coordinating conjunction ব্যবহার করে) 2. "I finished my assignment; I went to sleep." (Semicolon ব্যবহার করে) 3. "After finishing my assignment, I went to sleep."

• ৩.Maintain Tense Consistency (কালের সামঞ্জস্য রাখা):

• একই paragraph বা প্রসঙ্গে অহেতুক tense পরিবর্তন করবেন না।
• Example: "He entered the room and sits down." (ভুল) -> Correct: "He entered the room and sat down."

• ৪.Active vs. Passive Voice:

• Writing-কে direct এবং energetic করতে সবসময় Active Voice প্রাধান্য দিন। তবে যখন doer বা কর্তা অজানা থাকে, তখন Passive Voice ব্যবহার করা ভালো।
• Weak (Passive): "The project was completed by our team on time."
• Strong (Active): "Our team completed the project on time."

• ৫.Use Transition Words (বাক্যগুলোর মধ্যে সংযোগ):

• Writing-এর flow বা coherence বাড়ানোর জন্য connectors ব্যবহার করুন:
• ফলাফল বোঝাতে: Therefore, As a result, Consequently
• বৈপরীত্য বোঝাতে: However, On the other hand, In contrast
• উদাহরণ দিতে: For instance, For example

Writing Tip: সবসময় লেখার পর Proofreading করবেন। ছোট ছোট sentence দিয়ে শুরু করুন, তারপর complex sentence তৈরি করার চেষ্টা করুন।
