Common Preposition Errors (প্রিপজিশনের সাধারণ ভুল ও সমাধান)#

English Grammar-এ preposition অন্যতম কনফিউজিং একটা টপিক। বিশেষ করে আমরা যারা বাংলাভাষী, আমরা প্রায়ই বাংলা ব্যাকরণের বিভক্তি বা অর্থ অনুযায়ী হুবহু English translate করতে যাই, যার ফলে বেশ কিছু কমন ভুল হয়ে থাকে।

নিচে এমন কিছু কমন Preposition Errors নিয়ে আলোচনা করা হলো যা দৈনন্দিন ইংরেজি বলা এবং লেখার ক্ষেত্রে আমরা হরহামেশাই করি:

১. Discuss about ❌ vs. Discuss ✔️#

• ভুল ধারণা: বাংলায় আমরা বলি “বিষয়টি নিয়ে আলোচনা করা”, তাই অনেকেই বলি discuss about।
• নিয়ম: 'Discuss' শব্দের ভেতরেই 'about' লুকিয়ে থাকে। তাই Discuss-এর পর আলাদা করে 'about' বসে না।
• ❌ Incorrect: We need to discuss about the project.
• ✔️ Correct: We need to discuss the project.

২. Enter into ❌ vs. Enter ✔️#

• ভুল ধারণা: বাংলায় বলি “রুমে প্রবেশ করা”, তাই মনে হয় enter into the room হবে।
• নিয়ম: কোনো শারীরিক স্থান (ঘর, বিল্ডিং)-এ প্রবেশের ক্ষেত্রে শুধু 'Enter' বসে, 'into' না। তবে কোনো চুক্তি বা আলোচনায় যাওয়ার ক্ষেত্রে রূপক অর্থে 'enter into an agreement/deal' হতে পারে।
• ❌ Incorrect: The teacher entered into the classroom.
• ✔️ Correct: The teacher entered the classroom.

৩. Married with ❌ vs. Married to ✔️#

• ভুল ধারণা: “কারও সাথে বিয়ে হওয়া” ভেবে আমরা 'with' ব্যবহার করি।
• নিয়ম: Marriage-এর ক্ষেত্রে সবসময় প্রিপজিশন হিসেবে 'to' ব্যবহৃত হয়।
• ❌ Incorrect: She is married with a doctor.
• ✔️ Correct: She is married to a doctor.

৪. Congratulate for ❌ vs. Congratulate on ✔️#

• ভুল ধারণা: কোনো সফলতার “জন্য” শুভেচ্ছা জানাতে আমরা 'for' বলে ফেলি।
• নিয়ম: কাউকেই কোনো সাফল্যের জন্য অভিনন্দন জানাতে প্রিপজিশন 'on' বসে।
• ❌ Incorrect: I congratulated him for his great result.
• ✔️ Correct: I congratulated him on his great result.

৫. Listen ❌ vs. Listen to ✔️#

• ভুল ধারণা: কোনো কিছু শোনার ক্ষেত্রে অনেকেই 'to' ব্যবহার করতে ভুলে যাই।
• নিয়ম: 'Hear' এর পর preposition লাগে না, কিন্তু 'Listen' এর পর অবজেক্ট থাকলে অবশ্যই 'to' দিতে হবে।
• ❌ Incorrect: Listen me carefully!
• ✔️ Correct: Listen to me carefully!

৬. In the bus/train ❌ vs. On the bus/train ✔️#

• ভুল ধারণা: আমরা বাসের “ভেতরে” আছি বোঝাতে 'in' ব্যবহার করি।
• নিয়ম: যেসব পাবলিক ট্রান্সপোর্টে দাঁড়িয়ে হাঁটাচলা করা যায় (যেমন: Bus, Train, Plane, Boat), সেগুলোর ক্ষেত্রে 'On' বসে। আর যেসব ছোট গাড়িতে ঢুকে বসতে হয় (যেমন: Car, Taxi, CNG), সেগুলোর ক্ষেত্রে 'In' বসে।
• ❌ Incorrect: I am coming in the bus.
• ✔️ Correct: I am coming on the bus. (কিন্তু: I am in a car / in a taxi).

৭. Comprise of ❌ vs. Comprise / Consist of ✔️#

• ভুল ধারণা: 'Consist of' এর মতো অনেকেই 'Comprise of' বলে ফেলেন।
• নিয়ম: Active voice-এ 'Comprise'-এর পর কোনো প্রিপজিশন বসে না। আপনি বলতে পারেন 'consist of' অথবা শুধু 'comprise'।
• ❌ Incorrect: The committee comprises of five members.
• ✔️ Correct: The committee comprises five members. / The committee consists of five members.
