Match time expressions such as already, yet, ago, since, and by the time to appropriate forms.
English Grammar-এ Tense সঠিকভাবে identify ও use করার সবচেয়ে সহজ উপায় হলো Time Expressions বা Signal Words চেনা। বিভিন্ন Tense-এর সাথে নির্দিষ্ট কিছু Time Marker ব্যবহৃত হয়। নিচে প্রতিটি Tense-এর common time expressions এবং তাদের practical use তুলে ধরা হলো:
1. Present Simple Tense#
ব্যবহার: অভ্যাস (habit), নিয়মিত কাজ (routine) বা সাধারণ সত্য (universal truth) বোঝাতে।
- Common Time Expressions:
- Always, usually, regularly, normally, often, sometimes, rarely, hardly, never.
- Every day / every week / every month.
- Once a week, twice a year, on Sundays.
- Examples:
- He goes to office every day. (সে প্রতিদিন অফিসে যায়।)
- I usually drink tea in the morning.
2. Present Continuous Tense#
ব্যবহার: বর্তমানে এই মুহূর্তে কোনো কাজ চলছে বোঝাতে।
- Common Time Expressions:
- Now, right now, at the moment, at present, currently, nowadays, these days.
- Look!, Listen! (Attention grabber-এর পর সাধারণত Continuous হয়)।
- Examples:
- She is cooking dinner right now.
- Listen! Someone is knocking at the door.
3. Present Perfect Tense#
ব্যবহার: কাজ শেষ হয়ে গেছে কিন্তু তার ফলাফল এখনো বর্তমান, অথবা অতীত থেকে বর্তমান পর্যন্ত কোনো অভিজ্ঞতা।
- Common Time Expressions:
- Already, just, just now, recently, lately, yet (negative/interrogative-এ), ever, never.
- Since (specific point of time: since 2010), For (period of time: for 3 years).
- Examples:
- I have already finished my assignment.
- He hasn't arrived yet. (সে এখনো পৌঁছায়নি।)
- We have lived in Dhaka for five years.
4. Past Simple Tense#
ব্যবহার: অতীতে কোনো নির্দিষ্ট সময়ে কাজ শেষ হয়ে গেছে।
- Common Time Expressions:
- Yesterday, the day before yesterday.
- Ago (2 days ago, an hour ago).
- Last night / last week / last year / last month.
- In + past year (in 1971, in 2020).
- Once, once upon a time, that day.
- Examples:
- Bangladesh became independent in 1971.
- I met him yesterday.
- Common Mistake: "I have seen him yesterday" (❌ ভুল) ➔ "I saw him yesterday" (✔️ সঠিক, কারণ 'yesterday' থাকলে Past Simple হয়)।
5. Past Continuous Tense#
ব্যবহার: অতীতের কোনো নির্দিষ্ট মুহূর্তে বা অন্য কোনো ঘটনার সময় কোনো কাজ চলছিল।
- Common Time Expressions:
- At that moment, at that time, all evening yesterday.
- While / When (সাধারণত একটি continuous কাজের সময় আরেকটি simple past ঘটে)।
- Examples:
- While I was studying, the electricity went out.
- He was sleeping at 10 PM last night.
6. Future Simple Tense#
ব্যবহার: ভবিষ্যতে কোনো কাজ ঘটবে বোঝাতে।
- Common Time Expressions:
- Tomorrow, the day after tomorrow.
- Next week / next month / next year.
- Soon, shortly, in the future, later.
- In + future year (in 2030).
- Examples:
- We will launch the project next month.
- I will call you tomorrow.

Since(e.g., since Monday, since 2018), আর মোট সময় বা duration থাকলেFor(e.g., for two hours, for 5 days) ব্যবহার করবেন। - 2.Ago vs. Before: Past Simple-এর ক্ষেত্রে time duration-এর পর
agoবসে (e.g., three days ago), কিন্তু Past Perfect বা prepositional phrase-এbeforeব্যবহৃত হয়।
